Welcome to the West Elk Library!
Another summer has come to a close, and I am thrilled to return to school and extend a warm welcome to you at the West Elk School Library. The links provided on the left will grant you access to some of the most frequently utilized library resources. We are available to assist you with these resources, the Kansas State Library site, or any other materials you may require. This past summer, we implemented a new cataloging system. By using the researcher link, you can view the library's collection from home and place books on hold. Whether you seek assistance with research, recommendations for reading, or simply wish to discuss literature, we are here to support you in any capacity needed.
"Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers."Charles W. Eliot
MackinVIA is a new site that our students have access to in which they can check out e-books. The link for it is located in the Library Quick Links section at the top left of this webpage. Currently we have access to around 1000 books for students from K-8. Soon, there will be access to the Kansas State Library resources through this portal. The advantage of this is that we can put only age appropriate content on the website. That way, students of all ages in our district can benefit from the Kansas State Library resources.
We had a great time meeting Gordon Korman (pictured to the right) on Zoom on October 3rd. He is one of the 2019-2020 winners of the William Allen White Award. He told us about how he wrote his first book and the inspiration behind the winning book, Restart. Afterwards, we got a chance to ask questions of both he and Dusti Bowling, the writer of The Insignificant Life of a Cactus.
